PTW COLLABORATION
A key aspect of our professionalization work last year included collaborations with students from the Professional Technical Writing major. Students in ENG 3790 - Advanced Professional Writing were provided a set of problem statements from the Writing Center, their “client”, and asked to develop various professional writing assets to address those problems. The result of these projects are featured below.
NAVIGATION RESOURCES
The Writing Center functioned exclusively online for its first 1.5 years. This fact, combined with our location in a somewhat secluded area of the General Building within a larger computer lab, can make it challenging for students to locate us.
PTW students took a multi-pronged approach to address the issue of students having trouble finding the Writing Center: they created a helpful map, wrote and filmed a video walkthrough, and drafted a copy of written instructions in 4 different languages.
A NEW 'TUTOR HUB'
Over the years, our team has created and amassed a significant amount of resources that can come in handy during a tutoring session. These resources include writing handouts, sample papers, useful videos, and more. Unfortunately, many of those resources were scattered across the team’s Google Drive or generally difficult to find.
To centralize these resources into a ‘one-stop-shop’ format, PTW students created a Tutor Hub website. This website is now bookmarked on all of our computers, and has proved to be a useful tutor asset in many sessions since.
